Off again to Haworth – it certainly didn’t seem a year since our last visit. We have been for a rehearsal weekend at Haworth Youth Hostel every year since 1997 except for one year when we went to Bogglehole near Whitby.
As usual, our aim was to work hard and play hard and we did- over nine hours rehearsal time made it well worth the trip. Our primary aim was to confirm and rehearse our Summer Concert programme but we always have to play through some of our old favourites. This year, as well as a romp through Britten’s Simple Symphony for old times sake, we played the Saint Pauls Suite and eventually, so as not to disappoint Oscar, the Elgar Serenade for Strings.
Our social activities, as usual, included a walk into Haworth to stock up on goodies, football on the lawn whenever it wasn’t raining and some very, very silly games after our evening rehearsal. (For details ask a member of the orchestra!)
We are always totally motivated by chocolate – however much we take with us it always all gets eaten! These weekends have much to recommend them and a great time was had by all.
Special thanks to Philip Kidd and Sue Fowler, without whom this trip would have not have been possible.
