This July, Wakefield will be represented at the National Festival of Music for Youth by the ever-popular Fiddle and Flute ensemble. Having competed at the local heats, the group directed by Graham Hall and Caroline Billington will perform at the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham on Thursday 10th July.
The six day National Festival is the largest event of its kind in the country and features over 10,000 young musicians from all over the UK. Taking place in four seperate venues and a large outdoor stage in the city centre, groups perform to live audiences and panels of adjudicators. The adjudicators eventually decide on which groups will perform at the Schools' Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Previous groups run by Wakefield Music Services teachers which played at the festival include Manygates Big Band, Wakefield Youth Jazz Orchestra and Samba Kidz. Last year, Manygates Big Band were selected to go through and played at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
