Wakefield Music Services are to work in partnership with the charity Music and The Deaf in an exciting singing and signing project with children from the Rookeries Resource for Deaf and Hearing Impaired. This is the second time that the Music Service has supported a programme with Music and The Deaf.

Howard Goodall, singing ambassador for the government has allocated £48,000 to the project, which will also take place in four other authorities. The project will begin with a performance, showing deaf children a range of songs and vocal styles, followed by a short workshop. Two more workshops led by Paul Whittaker, artistic director of Music and The Deaf along with a local singer will include the children creating their own songs. We are hoping that the singer Kate Rusby will be able to support some of the sessions.

The final session will enable the children to perform their work to others. The Music Adviser is planning for the group to perform on 14 th March at St Wilfrid’s Catholic High School in the second concert in celebration of Billie Holliday Clayton.
