Wakefield Youth Choir and 'Fiddle and Flutes' took part in a concert on Friday 30th March to celebrate the work of 'Billie's Fund.' The fund was set up after Billie Clayton's tragic death in a canoeing accident last year. After receiving many generous donations, her father, writer, storyteller and broadcaster Ian Clayton decided that the family would use the money to ensure that children in the Featherstone area would benefit from one of Billie's loves: music.
Children from the four Featherstone Junior schools entered a writing and drawing competition and the winners received a new musical instrument of their choice and a year's free tuition from Wakefield Music Services. The instruments donated to the children were six violins, a drum kit, a guitar and a tenor saxophone. The concert attracted the attention of the local media and Wakefield Youth Choir were filmed whilst preparing for the performance.
