Near the beginning of the Autumn Term, Wakefield's Consultant Teacher for Music, Manton Dumville announced that he would be retiring at Christmas. Manton has worked with Wakefield Music Services for many years, starting originally as an Instrumental Music Teacher for West Riding in 1970. Although not unexpected, he leaves behind many friends and colleagues who will miss seeing him on a day-to-day basis.
Over the years, Manton's infectious enthusiasm and love of music have inspired teachers across all Wakefield schools and many of his former pupils have gone on to work in music and education. He was also co-director of Wakefield Youth Choir. All Mantons friends in the Music Service wish him a long, healthy and very happy retirement.
Starting in January, the new Consultant Teacher is Phil Needham, former Head of Music at City High School and we welcome him and wish him every success in his new role.
