Head of Music Centre - Barrie Edwards

Knottingley Music Centre was established in October 2004. The sessions take place on one Saturday afternoon each half-term and one Thursday, after school. The Music Centre offers ensemble opportunities for children learning to play brass, woodwind, strings and percussion . The Saturday sessions are held at England Lane Primary School from 1.30 - 4.30pm, with the Thursday after-school sessions being held in the Music Department at Knottingley High School from 4.15 - 5.45pm. Attendance at Knottingley Music Centre is usually following an invitation by the child's music teacher. Whilst the children are mainly from the Knottingley pyramid of schools, children from other areas are most welcome.

Children attending Music Centre do so for the whole session. On a Thursday there is a string group and another group catering for the pupils who play brass, woodwind and percussion. On a Saturday there are further ensembles to allow children to access a range of playing, enabling small group work and mixing a range of instruments.

Each year there are at least two concerts, usually in February and June. This gives the young musicians the opportunity to play to an audience and to also hear other groups perform.
