The Wakefield Youth Symphonic Wind Band is one of the Music Services' Premier ensembles, and during the past six years it has achieved great success in both its concert and competition appearances. The group has performed in Wakefield Cathedral and Opera House, the Royal Northern College of Music (as part of the Boosey & Hawkes National Concert Band Festival) and the Royal Festival Hall in London (as part of Music for Youth).

This year the group has undergone a complete restructuring which has allowed a new group to be formed which amalgamates staff and players from all the senior wind bands and ensembles at the Music Services' Saturday morning music centres.

The entry standard for the group is approximately Associated Board grade 3 to 4, and the group is open to all pupils who are undertaking lessons with Wakefield Music Services or who attend a music centre senior ensemble.
