WAKEFIELD TRANSECT
| This transect of Wakefield is based on work undertaken by staff and students at Ossett School in 1996. We would like to acknowledge the help given by Mrs. M. Noble, Head of Geography and Mr. R. Upton who took the photographs.
It is hoped that the activities and ideas for fieldwork enquiry linked to this transect will help Geography staff and students in Wakefield and further afield as well as enhancing their use of ICT.
The transect starts at Westgate End (St.Michael's Church),( GR. 323204) along Westgate to Northgate.(GR. 331207) It then continues along Northgate to Snow Hill. (GR326218) (see map 3). It shows one side of the road. The lefthand column is the ground floor landuse. 2 or 3 squares indicates 2 or 3 storeys. Students who can visit Wakefield can do a transect of the whole or part of this transect. A blank version of the transect is on another page(blank plan) and can be printed off for use in the field. They can then compare their transect with this 1996 version. Students who cannot visit Wakefield can analyse the changes in landuse, building high and age of buildings at different distances from the city centre. (GR. 330209) Index:
