MAP SKILLS QUIZ (1:25,000) - (USES MAP 8)

 You travel to the village of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ by car, approaching along the B _ _ _ _.   You park the car in the village, by the restored _ _ _ _ _.  You walk across the _ _ _ _ _ _ over the river, to buy some postcards in the village _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _.

 Then you return over the bridge, and turn to walk northwards, along the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ side of the river.  You pass the Yorkshire Dales _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ on  your right, as you continue to walk northwards, passing a spot height of _ _ _ m as you approach the village _ _ _ _ _ _ which has a _ _ _ _ _.

 Now you take the bridleway, which heads eastwards, past Encombe Bridge, passing through an area of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ as the path _ _ _ _ _ _ towards a height of 230 metres.  Just before you reach that height, you turn and head _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _, still 0n a bridleway, but now walking downhill, past _ _ _ _ _ _ _ plantation, to cross a small _ _ _ _ _ _ at a height of

_ _ _ m.  The bridleway now turns towards the _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _, climbing steadily as you walk along          _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ / track.

 Almost _ _ _ km after crossing that small stream,  you turn west north west, and follow the footpath down towards _ _ _ _ _ _ _ beck, which you cross by _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.  Once over the beck, you turn north east, to follow the bridleway to GR 754 711, where you can join a guided tour of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _.

 Later, your continue you walk, now following the footpath north east for _ _ _ _ of a km, before the path turns towards the _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _, climbing up through the narrow valley called      _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _.

 You continue your climbing, the path turning towards the north, eventually crossing the   _ _ _ m contour, before a level stretch of path brings you to GR 751 727 and the spectacular

_ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _.  Only _ _ _ m after passing this famous pot-hole, the path turns north west, and begins to climb again.   As you pass _ _ _ _ _ pot, most of the surrounding landscape is moorland but the map shows the contours ahead get closer together, indicating that the path will get much _ _ _ _ _ _ _ before you reach Little Ingleborough.

 Now you turn and walk _ _ _ _ _, and for almost half a km, the path is _ _ _ _ _, starting to climb again as you pass the _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ on the wat to Swine Tail.   Here is the last change of direction, as you now walk _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ towards the summit, _ _ _ m above seal-level.   Now, at last you can lean against the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ as you admire the _ _ _ _.  Three and three-quarter kilometres away, just to the east of south you can see the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ / _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ at Clapdale Scar, and just over _ _ _ and a _ _ _ _ km beyond that, the village where your car awaits.
