You travel to the village of CLAPHAM by car, approaching along the B 6480  You park the car in the village, by the restored CROSS.  You walk across the BRIDGE over the river, to buy some postcards in the village POST / OFFICE.

 Then you return over the bridge, and turn to walk northwards, along the EASTERN side of the river.  You pass the Yorkshire Dales NATIONAL /PARK/CENTRE on  your right, as you continue to walk northwards, passing a spot height of 164 m as you approach the village CHURCH which has a TOWER.

 Now you take the bridleway, which heads eastwards, past Encombe Bridge, passing through an area of WOODLAND as the path CLIMBS towards a height of 230 metres.  Just before you reach that height, you turn and head NORTH/EAST still 0n a bridleway, but now walking downhill, past THWAITE plantation, to cross a small STREAM at a height of 205 m.  The bridleway now turns towards the NORTH/NORTH/EAST, climbing steadily as you walk along LONG/LANE track.

 Almost ONE km after crossing that small stream,  you turn west north west, and follow the footpath down towards CLAPHAM beck, which you cross by FOOTBRIDGE.  Once over the beck, you turn north east, to follow the bridleway to GR 754 711, where you can join a guided tour of INGLEBOROUGH CAVE..

 Later, your continue you walk, now following the footpath north east for HALF of a km, before the path turns towards the NORTH WESTclimbing up through the narrow valley called TROW/GILL

 You continue your climbing, the path turning towards the north, eventually crossing the 400 m contour, before a level stretch of path brings you to GR 751 727 and the spectacular GAPING/GILL  Only 100 m after passing this famous pot-hole, the path turns north west, and begins to climb again.   As you pass THACK pot, most of the surrounding landscape is moorland but the map shows the contours ahead get closer together, indicating that the path will get much STEEPER before you reach Little Ingleborough.

 Now you turn and walk NORTH and for almost half a km, the path is LEVEL starting to climb again as you pass the SHAKE/HOLEon the wat to Swine Tail.   Here is the last change of direction, as you now walk WEST/SOUTH/WEST_ towards the summit, 723 m above seal-level.   Now, at last you can lean against the TRIANGULATION/PILLAR as you admire the VIEW  Three and three-quarter kilometres away, just to the east of south you can see the LIMESTONE PAVEMENTat Clapdale Scar, and just over ONE and a HALF km beyond that, the village where your car awaits.
