Where is Lucy?
This web page is intended for use by young children, who are in the early stages of learning to read. It tells the story of Lucy, who is never where you expect her to be, or doing what you expect her to be doing.
My dog Lucy came to live with us in August as I moved to Early Years in September. As part of our " getting to know you" work we exchanged information about our homes, families and pets. "What did Lucy do last night?" has become part of our morning news ritual. We have used the Sherston Talking book Doris the Dotty Dog a great deal because the children like it so much. I hope that this can be used in a similar way and that we can develop more stories not only about Lucy but about the children's own pets.
The text is simple and repetitive and uses key words from the National Literacy Strategy list of words that reception children should learn.
