How to use these web pages. Introduce the home page to the children discussing the little girl and her shopping list - What could she be called? How many items does she need to buy? Can the children name all the items on her list? Clicking on the trolley will begin shopping. Each page will ask the child to find and click on the correct item from the list, praising them with a "yey!!" when they succeed. If they are unsuccessful, clicking on the trolley will return to the choice page.
Counting activity Each page includes a simple counting activity using the numbers to 10. Clicking on the question mark will take you to this page. The children are asked how many items they can see and are given a choice of two numbers. Clicking on the correct number will reward them with a "yey!!"
Getting the most from these web pages.
Although the website shows pictorially what is required to do, it is most successful when used with adult support. - younger children could make a pictorial shopping list to refer to as the teacher reads through the pages. (The home page could be printed out as a reference). - each page can include discussion and recognition of the other items that are available to choose from. Other activities could be: - add up how many items have been selected so far. - state how many items are left to be bought on the list. - one to one counting and number recognition to 10. - set up a role play shopping area and encourage the children to make their own shopping lists.
